Hornsea's had a redo!

Belfast brand Magpie has teamed up with the famous mid-century pottery design studio Hornsea to reboot the iconic 1967 animal designs created by John Clappison, chief designer at Hornsea. This fantastic collaboration brings your favourite Hornsea designs back to life by putting a contemporary spin on some 1960s classics.

Magpie have redrawn the instantly recognisable mid-century design cats, owls and birds from the original illustrations archived in the Hornsea Museum and created new ceramic moulds for cruets sets and money boxes, glazing them using authentic Hornsea colours of the period.

Hornsea pottery x Magpie selection of new products

Hornsea Potteries was founded in 1949 by brothers Colin and Desmond Rawson. Driven by a wide array of design influences, the pottery quickly grew from being a purveyor of seaside tourist trinkets to the largest studio pottery in the world, employing over 700 people.

Hornsea’s rapid growth was generated by widespread popularity and inspirational design. Hornsea developed unique and ground-breaking techniques and designs.

Hornsea traded for 50 years before closing in 2000 and this new collaboration with Magpie keeps their legacy alive while also introducing them to new generations of collectors.
We are pleased to be able to offer this new line of iconic pottery along with two vibrant 100% cotton cat and owl tea towels.
